Han Dynasty Renovation on Market Street

Han Dynasty Restaurant Renovation Fitout Philadelphia

The Han Dynasty restaurant acquired restaurant space in University City formerly occupied by Mid Atlantic restaurant. Gardner/Fox renovated the space to accommodate the new restaurant’s cooking and dining requirements.

Construction included the reconfiguration of the cooking line and the incorporation of a new 5-burner wok. The addition of new privacy partitions separated the open kitchen from the main dining room. The installation of Bendheim decorative glass panels highlights the view of the open kitchen from both the main and private dining areas.

Han Dynasty boasts new amenities and options at the new 37th and Market location. While most of the locations are BYOB, the University City restaurant holds a liquor license.

The shovels were in the ground this afternoon on the site of FOP Lodge 5’s new headquarters in the Far Northeast. On the count of three, Gardner/Fox President Brook Gardner, Councilman O’neill Mayor Nutter, FOP President John McNesby, Police Commissioner Ramsey, and First Trust Bank President Tim Abell all broke ground. The ceremony signaled the beginning of construction on the old IRS building at 11630 Caroline Road which will become the FOP’s new home. Renovations are expected to be completed by December.

Inside the FOP building demolition has been completed and the former IRS offices completely removed. The space is back to its original flex-warehouse concept, awaiting the next stage of construction which will be to layout and cut the floor slabs for the new underground plumbing piping.

Food co-ops on rise in Philly area

22 Sep

Just read a great article about Mariposa’s expansion and the rise of co-ops in the Philadelphia area. Take a look.

Pam Seida browses the aisle at Mariposa Food Co-op in West Philadelphia, looking for tempeh bacon, which she insists is “yummy.”

The space is cramped, but Seida, 44, has shopped here for a decade, since moving from Rosemont. And yes, she is delighted that a new building is under construction just one block away.

The $2.6 million structure, to open in January, will be five times bigger, with vertical farming, bee hives, and a demonstration kitchen on the roof; dry-goods storage and cisterns for harvesting rainwater in the basement; a cafe and a classroom on the mezzanine; and, on the ground floor, aisles and aisles of locally grown produce, dairy, beef, and Seida’s favorite, tempeh bacon.

Even as the economy bleeds jobs, the number of member-owned food co-ops is doubling – in this region and across the country.
